Rules

There are major differences between the objectives and safety rules for amateur boxing versus  professional boxing.

Several  Australian states and territories have legislation and regulations generally governing professional and amateur boxing within their jurisdiction. In one state (New South Wales), women are not permitted by law to compete in amateur boxing.

The specifics of rules and safety procedures, etc, for amateur boxing are set out by amateur boxing organisations and generally reflect the rules of the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA); however, there are some differences in amateur rules between countries, and between boxing organisations in any given country, in relation to such matters as Juniors and Masters.

INTERNATIONAL RULE CHANGES 2008-2009
The national and international rules changed in late 2008 and early 2009 for a number of significant matters,
including age and weight divisions, and length/number of rounds for elite males.
You should refer to the AIBA and Boxing Australia websites for up-to-date information.
The information shown here is out of date in a number of areas.
